The Westin Bangkok

Kisso: Japanese Private Dining

A perfect start to my Bangkok trip, I was invited to dine at Kisso, a beautifully refined Japanese restaurant located on the 8th floor of The Westin Grande Sukhumvit. Kisso provided a seasonal Japanese multi-course set menu in a private dining setting, with a focus on traditional techniques and and thoughtful detail.

We experienced the Kaiseki set menu, a structured eight-course dinner with seasonal ingredients and hot sake pairing. Kaiseki is known for its attention to temperature, texture, plating, and progression. Kisso executed this perfectly, with a calm, ambient atmosphere and beautifully presented dishes.

Our Kaiseki Menu:

  • Chef’s Appetizer Trio

    – Tofu topped with sea urchin, dried fish crisps, and lightly salted edamame

  • Clear Soup

    – A light, delicate broth with greens and a seafood dumpling

  • Sashimi Platter

    – Thick-cut tuna, salmon, and white fish served with edible flowers and gold leaf

  • Grilled Dish

    – Charcoal-seared Wagyu beef with steamed asparagus, carrot, and garlic chips

  • Fried Dish

    – Lightly battered prawn and seasonal vegetable tempura

  • Steamed Dish

    – Silken tofu with shimeji mushrooms and greens in a hot soy-based broth

  • Rice or Noodle Course

    – Cold green tea soba with shrimp, dipping sauce, and wasabi

  • Dessert

    – A clean, seasonal finish with fresh fruit, coconut and icecream

Each dish was served individually, allowing us to enjoy the pace and detail of every course. Plating was elegant, using lacquered and ceramic dishware in line with traditional Japanese design. The sashimi was exceptionally fresh, the broths were rich with umami, and the Wagyu was tender, well-cooked, and balanced by its accompaniments. My personal favourites were the sashimi selection and the Wagyu.

We were introduced to the chef during the evening, who was so kind and gracious. It was clear how much care and precision went into each dish, and we were very appreciative of the work behind the menu. The service team was equally warm and attentive and every course was timed perfectly.

As it was my partner’s birthday, the Kisso team thoughtfully surprised us with a beautiful cake to celebrate. The attention to detail throughout the night made the experience memorable, and we absolutely loved every dish.
