How to Create a Notion Template
(+ a bonus guide to the best noodle bars in Singapore)

You may have heard of the popular online platform "Notion", but if you're yet to try out this network or are seeking some tips on how to utilise it effectively - look no further. This guide covers what Notion is, how to use it and style it to suit your needs.

As an added bonus, I have also included a list of my favourite Singapore noodle bars in an example Notion template - be sure to check them out!


 What is Notion?

“Notion is an application that provides components such as notes, databases, kanban boards, wikis, calendars and reminders. Users can connect these components to create their own systems for knowledge management, note taking, data management, project management, among others." - Notion Web Description. 

In addition to providing helpful online organisational tools, the thing that makes Notion a unique platform is the ability to style and personalise your pages with aesthetic pictures and GIFs.

I've created and shared a Notion Template with the following sectors, for everyone to use:

I designed this template around consistent factors within my daily routine.
The template is fully customisable if you would like to personalise it to suit your own schedule. My template's theme is inspired by a “Tokyo aesthetic" and you will see GIFs featured throughout the template. 
Lifestyle Template

Create a Notion
To make your own Notion from scratch start with logging in or Sign Up for an account.

Once you are signed in, you will be able to create your own Notion templates.

For example, if you were planning a trip to Singapore and wanted to record a list of the places where you would like to eat - you could create a Notion page for this.

You would start by adding a heading to your page: Singapore Eats

Next, click the + button on the left of the text, scroll down and select the component that is most suitable for the purpose of your page (eg. a list).

In this example, a Table or List would be the most efficient choice.

In a table, you could list the restaurant names, location and your favourite dishes from each place.

On a checklist, you can note places you are yet to try and tick them off as you go.

Additionally, to keep track of related web pages, select the + symbol on the left of your text and embed a link. This will help you by keeping all of your resources organised on one page.


How to style your pages
To style your page, you will first need to decide on a theme. For example, my Lifestyle Notion template has a "Tokyo aesthetic" theme. I personally think anime GIF’s are really cute for Notion templates, and they’re the easiest to find, but if you’re looking for something else you can easily use any GIF or photo you like. 

Above the Title, you can add a cover photo and profile pic (labelled icon). Head to GIPHY, Pinterest or your camera roll. Search for what your looking for (I looked for Singapore city GIFs) find one you like and simply drag it onto your desktop. Then, click 'upload your cover and icon'.

Below your table or checklist, you can add more images, rearrange the position of elements and resize until it looks organised.

On headings, you can select the six dots (located to the left of your text) and  press “colour” to change text colour or highlight.

Add additional resources such as embedded web pages, map locations and audio if you please.
